Malcolm Aiken is an award-winning trumpeter, producer, and educator based in Vancouver, Canada. He holds a Master's degree in ethnomusicology from the University of British Columbia and has established himself as a prominent figure in the North American jazz and world music scenes. Malcolm is known for his warm, lyrical sound that traverses the sounds of jazz, world, and pop music.
As a performer, Malcolm has shared the stage with notable artists such as Chucho Valdez, Noel Gallagher, John Hammond Jr. Jim Byrnes, Steve Dawson, Jimmy Bosch and David Hidalgo. He has played at major events, including the 2010 Winter Olympics, and for distinguished figures like the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. His extensive touring has taken him to Hong Kong, Mexico, Japan, and Holland.
Malcolm's music projects include his work with his quartet where he has developed a unique sound influenced by jazz, soul, indie, and hip hop. His album "New Futures" is a testament to this innovative blend, featuring deep grooves, ambient textures, and vintage synths, reminiscent of artists like Bob James and Miles Davis with modern beats inspired by J Dilla and Flying Lotus.
In addition to his performing career, Malcolm is co-founder of TrebleFive Music, an artist management and music production studio, and is an active music educator on faculty Kwantlen Polytechnic University. His contributions to the music community include teaching, writing on pedagogy, jazz, and Afro-Caribbean music traditions, and producing music that has been nominated for awards such as the Junos, Western Canadian Music Awards and the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
